I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Michael Malekie passed away March 25, 2011 at his home, certain in the faith, hope and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love and caring of family and friends. He was born March 30, 1945 in Teheran, Iran to Asad Maleki and Roghieh Dabaghi, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Teri Vu; children, Brandon and Andrew; and six siblings, Ahmad, Effat, Mahmoud, Narges, Shahnaz, and Steven. Mike graduated from Cal State University, Los Angeles in 1972 with a BS in Chemistry. He worked for Hewlett Packard from 1972-83 and Santa Fe Drilling from 1983-2008, where he met the love of his life, Teri. He was an avid sports lover with a passion for swimming, skiing, and watching/coaching his sons’ basketball teams. His idol was his father, Asad, who instilled a love of learning in Mike. Mike raised his kids with a passion for education and desire to see them receive a Catholic education from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School. He took great pride in teaching his boys to be “men for others.” Very heartfelt thanks go out to Viet Duong, a Division of Compassionate Care Hospice; Dr. John DeGroot; and nurses, Julie Walker and Kathy Hunter, from the Brain and Spine Center at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. The family deeply appreciates all the care that was given to our beloved husband and father during his courageous battle with brain cancer, and special thanks go to the John Paul II and Strake Jesuit communities for their past and continued support. A memorial service will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Friday, April 1, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family will accept contributions to a tuition assistance and educational fund being established for the benefit of Mike’s two sons.
