Michael Alan Dyess a native Houstonian, husband, father, brother, grandfather, athlete, sportsman, world traveler, and entrepreneur transitioned from this life to meet his creator and beloved family already awaiting his arrival in heaven on Sunday, March 18th 2018. He passed peacefully with his family around him.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Dyess, his brother John Glynn Dyess and sister in-law Connie Dyess, eldest daughter Stacia Dyess-Hammond and son in-law James Hammond, daughter Amanda McCormick, and four grand children; Blake and Cara Robb, Tanner Whittington, and Bethany Hammond. He is preceded in death by his father John Corbett Dyess, mother Reba LaVerne Dyess-Kraft, son Corbett Bradford “Bubba” Dyess and granddaughter Cameron Elizabeth Dyess.
Mike's athletic success began in his early years playing baseball in the Pony League World Series for Houston in 1960. He played all district baseball and football for Bellaire High School then graduated in 1964. Afterward, he played college baseball for Blinn Jr. College and on scholarship with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
As a sportsman, he excelled in and lived for hunting, golfing, with memberships at Crown Colony Country Club and The Galveston Country Club winning numerous tournaments and holding board positions as well. He became a professional Bass fisherman placing in pro-tournaments qualifying him to compete in the Annual Bass Master's Classic while leading and producing two top rated ESPN2 TV Shows: Inshore Angler and Sportsman's Challenge.
As an entrepreneur he bought and sold many companies developing them for success. Mike was regarded as a legend in fishing among his peers, "a complex man" as his best buddy, T.G. Collier, reflects, and something of "a burnt marshmallow, crusty on the outside but soft and sweet on the inside" as Melissa and Rick Clunn adoringly describe him; he was a man who traveled the world endearing himself to strangers. He made friends sharing his humanity, wit, and sage insight into the soul of life with those who recognized his light and felt his charisma.
Mike lived on his own terms; he lived the dream, he showed us how to do it with both passion and integrity; he lives on, and we know will see him soon. What a great time that will be. We believe as he did, love is unconditional and forever. He showed us that as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend.
