Michael Lynn Dudley, beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and friend passed away at the age of 71, in Houston, TX, peacefully on November 27, 2018. He was born in Houston, TX on June 13, 1947 to Byron Lee and Fern Vivian Dudley.
Mike attended Milby High School. He was a medic in the US Army from 1967 until 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. Prior to serving time in the Army, Mike started working as a Longshoreman at the Houston Ship Channel. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Mike returned to work as a Longshoreman and worked his entire career at the Houston Ship Channel for Local 24 totaling over 3 decades.
He had a passion for many different activities throughout different times of his life. In his younger days he spent time coaching Little League Baseball, Mike had a love for baseball his entire life. He loved the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees. As time went on Mike discovered a new activity, bowling. He joined a bowling league and spent many nights at the bowling alley under Gulf Gate Mall. After years of bowling, Mike found great happiness and peace fishing on Lake Livingston. He spent many early mornings and late evenings on a pier with a fishing pole in his hand. When Mike was able to step away from work and reach retirement, he discovered the game of golf. He enjoyed playing golf and participating in golf tournaments for over 15 years.
Mike was a very active member in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for over 20 years, he became a committeeman in 1995. He organized the Chili Cookoff for many years working to become a Lifetime Committeeman and achieved that status in 2011. Mike proudly displayed the yearly HLS&R badges that he had worked to earn.
Michael Dudley is survived by his daughter, Elisabeth Frazier and her husband Philip; his grandsons, Brayden and Gavin; his brother, Larry Dudley; his 1st cousins, Susie, Lenal, Lynwood, Ruben and Glenda; numerous 2nd cousins; first wife Joycelyn “Joyce” Dudley; daughters through marriage, Kelli Schuessler and her husband Butch, their children Schaffer, Kirkland and Linnea; Staci Smith and her daughter Madison. He is preceded in death by his parents, Byron Lee and Fern Vivian Dudley; his brother Ed “Butch” Hardy Dudley; his stepfather Henry Milton Harmon; second wife Francis “Frankie” Randall.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 10-11AM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and funeral services will be held immediately following at 11AM.
