Michael James Clement, 55, of Houston, Texas passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2016. Mike was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 22, 1961. He considered himself a Houstonian and a Texan by birthright. In his youth, Mike was a member of the Cub Scouts (Webelos) and was also a very good athlete, he played both little league baseball and football, lifted weights, and enjoyed surfing at Surfside, TX. As a teenager, he was always very industrious and interested in reaching his goals, he operated several newspaper routes and worked at a grocery store after school. His tenacious nature ultimately allowed him to save enough money to buy his favorite car, a 1971 Buick Riviera.
Mike always set a high standard for being conscientious and hardworking. In 1979, he took a journeyman approach in learning a trade as a traditional hand skilled draftsman. He later attended the University of Houston and honed his technical skills which led to bigger and better job opportunities. In 1981, he began working for Transco Energy where he became a pioneer and trailblazer of computer-aided design using Intergraph software were he became an expert in his field. This accomplishment set him apart from his peers and put him on a solid path as a successful piping designer. In 1993, he was selected from many applicants by Hess Oil for a dream job working in St. Croix, USVI. This changed his career focus from natural gas pipeline design to piping design in the oil industry. He later went on to work for several prestigious engineering companies as a senior piping designer in the Houston area.
Mike and his wife Betty were married on August 5, 1989 and blessed with Christopher Michael on October 22, 1998 and Lauren Michelle on January 5, 2001. Mike enjoyed being the outdoor grill chef for the family on weekends and special occasions and liked being actively involved with the children’s sports activities and scouting. He also served as an usher at Cornerstone United Methodist Church where the family attends services, this brought him great joy and many friendships.
Mike loved his wife Betty and their children Christopher and Lauren and he cherished their time together more than anything else. He also enjoyed reminiscing about the good ole days with his family and friends and always had a funny story to tell and was quick with a joke to cheer up someone if they needed it.
Mike was predeceased by his father Joseph Scott Clement. He is survived by his wife Betty and children Christopher and Lauren, his mother Judith Bailey, his brothers Gregory and Tod Clement, his sister Laurie Stringer, and his niece Amanda Clement.
