Michael Lance Brown

Michael Lance “Mike” Brown passed away peacefully on October 11, 2010 from complications of Legionnaire’s disease. Mike was born January 3, 1950 in Pearsall, Texas to Lance and Ruth Brown. Mike grew up in Taylor, TX and graduated from Taylor High School in 1968. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with honors, member of Phi Beta Kappa and went on to graduate from the University Of Texas School Of Law. After law school Mike and his wife Nela settled in Houston. Mike was a respected attorney, Board Certified in oil and gas law. Prior to establishing a successful private practice, Mike worked for Exxon, Getty and Coastal Gas. Mike was licensed to practice law in Texas, Louisiana and Pennsylvania. Mike was an active contributor and volunteer to numerous charitable and civic organizations. He was a longtime member of the Downtown Optimist Club and past President of that organization; a former member of the Board of Directors of Boys and Girls Harbor; a former member of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Committees and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mike enjoyed spending time on “the farm” outside of Pearsall, TX that he and his brother Randy owned. He also had a love of restoring and driving Model T trucks. Mike had a passion for reading history and had a remarkable encyclopedic recall for historical facts. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. Mike is survived by: Nela, his wife of thirty-nine years; his son, Robert “Robby,” brothers, Randy, Jeff, and Marc and their spouses and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm with visitation two hours prior to the service. There will be a burial of Mr. Brown's urn 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 in Glenwood Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
