Merline Rogers

She met the love of her life, John Henry Rogers, Sr., and they married on October 16, 1965. From that union, they have four children: Antonio Lorenzo Rogers, Sr. (Norma), Clausezette Davis (Daryl), Clifton Rogers (Demetrius), and John Henry Rogers, Jr. (Johnice). John and Merline raised their granddaughter, Maryam Fontenot, from infancy to adulthood. Additionally, they adopted Dorthey Rogers and Tonea Rogers and were the legal caregivers to Alma De Los Santos and Maria Perkins from early childhood to adulthood.

In 1980, Merline fulfilled her dream of becoming a business owner when she graduated from cosmetology school and opened a beauty salon, which she owned and operated until she retired in 1997. She then transitioned to doing what was natural to her: caring for children. That same year, alongside her husband, they became foster parents and were caregivers to countless children of all ages until 2021.

Her search for knowledge of the Bible led her to symbolize her dedication to Jehovah God by water baptism on June 28, 1973. On August 1, 2018, she started what she said was the best career and years of her life: serving in the ministry as a regular pioneer. She passionately shared the prospect of living forever in a cleansed paradise right here on earth.

Merline is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Berry, Sr. and Argusta Williams, and brothers, Walter Berry, Jr. (his beloved wife Shirley) and Charles Edward Berry.

Merline leaves to cherish her memories her beloved husband of 58 years, John Henry Rogers, Sr; her loving children, Antonio Lorenzo Rogers, Sr. (Norma), Clausezette Davis (Daryl), Clifton Rogers (Demetrius), and John Henry Rogers, Jr. (Johnice), Maryam Fontenot, Dorthey Rogers, Tonea Rogers, Alma De Los Santos and Maria Perkins, her siblings, Alma Weatherspoon (James), Gloria Carmon, Joseph Vernon Johns (raised as her brother and is affectionately known as 'Bollie' (Dana)), grandchildren, Antonio Lorenzo Rogers, Jr, Anthony Darnell Rogers, Aundre Deshun Rogers, Jayden Davis, Myaisha Rogers, Keisha Shehard, Deshund Rogers Clifton Derrick Rogers, Robert Franklin, Deona Franklin, Michael Brisick, Robyn Burns, Yuriyah Brisick, Maryam Fontenot, Johnathan Rogers, and John'ay Rogers, and a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunts, and a worldwide association of spiritual brothers and sisters.

Instead of flowers, I would like to ask anyone who would like to donate to the Jehovah's Witnesses Worldwide work to do so. The donations support religious and humanitarian activities, an essential part of Merline Rogers's life.

A public visitation for Merline will be held Friday, November 3, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A Memorial Service will occur Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM at External Service Location, 3545 Harkey Rd, Pearland, TX 77584.
