He was born on August 16, 1918 to Martina Flores and Merced Cantu SR in Matamoros, Mexico. Mr. Cantu was raised by his godparents, Eulalio Contreras and Paulita Garcia Contreras, in La Grulla, TX at the age of two years, after the passing of his mother.
Merced Cantu was employed by Cactus Pipe Supply Company in Houston as a mechanic until his retirement. Was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Community in Humble, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 61 years, Guadalupe Garcia Cantu, son Jose Manuel Cantu. He is survived by his sons; David Noe Cantu of Roseburg, TX, Israel Cantu (Rosie), Atascocita, TX., Merced Cantu Jr. (Ruth), Beeville, TX., Adolph Cantu, Palm Springs, CA. Daughters; Hilda Cantu-Sustaita (Tomas), Houston, TX, Maria Imelda Cantu-Sustaita (Alfred), Alvin, TX, Elizabeth Cantu-Valdemar (Alvaro) Atascocita, TX. , Twenty-Six Grandchildren, Fifty-Five Great-Grandchildren and Six Great-Great-Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday at the funeral home, Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. A prayer vigil and Rosary will be held at 7pm.
Funeral services will be held Friday September 16, 2016 at The Chapel of The Angels at Forest Park Funeral Home Lawndale, Houston, Texas at 11:00am.
