Melvin William Henry Richter passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday December 20, 2014 at Vitas Hospice. He was born on January 25, 1932 in New Wehdem, TX to John William Richter and Minnie Spross Richter. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother John, sister Ruth, son Steven, and grandson Michael. He is survived by his wife of 32+ years Sharon Richter, his son Jason Wayne Richter, daughters Debra Kay Enriquez and Yvonne Fay Duran, grandsons Fredrick Enriquez and Derrick Barker, granddaughters Deanna Enriquez and Michelle Enriquez, and numerous great-grandchildren. Melvin joined the army at age 17 and received his high school diploma. After honorable discharge from the service he started his higher education at Blinn College in Brenham, attended the University of Texas at Austin, and finished at then Sam Houston State Teacher’s College with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He worked as an accountant for numerous energy companies including over 29 years at Transco. In 1992 he retired from Transco to pursue a career in residential real estate, which he did for the rest of his life including the last 10+ years for Century 21 Southwest. He will be missed.
