Melissa was born July 15, 1942 in Amarillo, Texas and passed away October 20, 2011 in Houston, Texas after a long battle with cancer. She grew up in Amarillo and attended Tascosa High School. After her parents passed away, she moved from Amarillo to Houston when she was 15, to be with her family. Melissa graduated from Milby High School and then graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She went on to obtain her Master of Education degree in 1991. Melissa taught children for over 35 years. At Cypress United Methodist Church, she was the Education Coordinator, a Sunday school teacher and a Wee Wuns pre-school teacher. She then taught Kindergarten in the Cy-Fair School District at Adam Elementary and Lowery Elementary. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Gamma education sorority, PTO board member, den mother, Girl Scout leader and softball coach. Melissa was a long standing member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. Melissa is survived by her beloved husband John Grant; sister Mary Rust; brother Bill Gray and wife Doris; son Mark Edward Sepulveda and wife Katie; daughter Carolyn Ann White and husband Blayne; son Donald William Sepulveda and wife Kandi; and step-daughter Kim Grant. Melissa’s joy in life was her grandchildren - Austin, Ali, Carson, Sam, Hogan, Ryan, Hallie, William and John. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday October 24 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A private burial will be followed by a public memorial service on Tuesday October 25 at 2:00 PM at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church at 717 Sage Road, Houston 77056, reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
