McCoy Holcomb was born in Shepherd, Texas, on October 30, 1945, to Leroy Holcomb Sr. and Ethel Lee Holcomb. He lived there with his parents and ten siblings until the age of 10 when the family moved to Houston, Texas. Here he attended Houston Public schools. Upon graduation from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967, he was drafted to serve in the United States Airforce as a soldier in the Viet Nam War. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and returned to his home in Houston. There he met and married his life-long companion Marcia Gail Jones. From their union they were blessed with two sons, Cedric McCoy Holcomb and Cory Reshard Holcomb.
Now the father of three fine sons, one from a previous relationship — but loved just as dearly was Rufus Carl Graves (Pookie), McCoy embarked upon his journey to be the best father, provider, and role model that he could possibly be. Always striving to teach by his example the value of hard work, discipline and family values.
Later in life he dedicated his life to the God and became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend F. N. Williams, Sr. There he served as a faithful member of the Brotherhood, including the Senior Ushers, the Sunday School Department, and Church Trustee. He was a faithful member and loved his pastor and church family dearly, especially the children. He remained a dedicated member until his death, always relishing the spiritual leadership provided by his pastor and the Brotherhood.
McCoy leaves a solid legacy and cherished memory to a host of relatives, including his wife Marcia Gail, three sons: Cedric, Cory, and Rufus, three sisters: Hannah Harrison (Henry), Sylvia Waddell, and Mattie Mitchell: one brother: Leroy Holcomb, Jr. (Shirley); Niece/Daughter, LaShonda (Shon) Holcomb and a whole host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and the Antioch family.
McCoy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Ethel Holcomb, Siblings: Alice Nell Foreman, Mack Arthur, Lee Ester Ellison, Rensaw Douglas (Doug), Audra Apejua and Erma Jean Ransom.
McCoy was called to his eternal rest on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Welcome Home Weary Warrior. Enter into the rest of your LORD.
