Maxine was born on February 27, 1929, in Trinity, Texas, to parents Jake and Minnie Helton. While working on her cosmetology license, she met the dashing love of her life L.D. Phillips, Jr. when he returned home from the service. She caught his eye as the pretty girl down the street who was also his sister's best friend. They were married on September 28, 1946 and went on to have 2 beautiful daughters together. She loved her family fiercely and loved nothing more than raising her family and watching it grow throughout the years and spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Maxine's love for God and her family were always at the forefront of her life. Maxine and L.D. were long time members of Sagemont Church where they attended Sunday School and church services regularly. Maxine was a hairdresser for 65 years, owning her own salon by the age of 23. Many of her clients went on to become her lifelong friends. She loved to cook, bake, sew, and host dinner parties for her friends. Maxine's class and strength were something to aspire for. Her sharp-witted sense of humor never ceased, even into her last days. To say she will be greatly missed would be an understatement. She was the Queen of all our lives and her legacy will live on through all of those who loved her so.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, L.D. Phillips, Jr.; her sisters, Bernice Helton Foley and Loraine Ethel Helton Bruce; her brother, Henry Clemen Helton; and her parents, James "Jake" Dennis Helton and Minnie Davis Helton.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Debbie Mills and Dana Milburn; her grandchildren, Jason Milburn (and wife, Meredith); Amy Mills, Lisa Mills, Michelle Milburn and Joshua Wright; and her great-grandchildren, Hannah Milburn, Kaleigh Deatherage, Maddox Boutte, and Lillian Holbrook.
