Our beloved Maxine was born on December 10, 1928 in Wiemer, Texas to Lester and Edna Hamilton Brown. Maxine was educated at Schulenburg School. Soon after school, she moved to Galveston, Texas and later decided to make her home on the North side of Houston in the subdivision of Settegast. Maxine was blessed with four children; Delores, Willie Mae, Ivory Jean and Spencer. During her full life, she worked as John Sealy Hospital as an elevator operator. She was also a nurse and caregiver at various points of her life. As a mother, she was strong, caring and a hard worker. She had a zest for life that she instilled in all of her children. When Maxine had time to enjoy herself, she loved to fish, quilt and talk on the phone to any and everyone. She was truly the life-line of the family. There was never a dull moment with our Maxine. Preceding her in death were her parents Lester and Edna Hamilton Brown; three sisters, two brothers and one daughter. Cherishing her memory are her husband Eddie Matthews and her children Delores, Willie Mae, Ivory Jean and Spencer. She is also survived by four sisters Erma Toliver (Alfred Toliver), Margie Fields (Arthur Fields), Mamie L. Scott (Russell Scott), Lorene Davis; one brother Arthur Brown (Helen Brown); 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
