"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7 & 8 On January 20, 1932, Mattie Ernestine was born to Ethel and Tommie Blackshear. Mattie was educated in the public schools in Houston, Texas. She met and married Conder Lee Shelley and to the union eight children were born. Mattie united and was baptized at New Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of late Pastor Bennie Reynolds. Later in life, Mattie joined North East Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor John Parker and was a faithful and loyal until her health began to fail. Mattie worked as a private duty nurse for twenty-five years. Mattie was known to be a cook of all cooks. She was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a warm, pleasant, kind and happy person to all of those who came in contact with her. Mattie will be missed but her memories will live in our hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conder Lee Shelley, 2 sons, Keith and Reginald Blackshear. Mattie departed this life peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014 on the anniversary of her late husband death, Conder Lee Shelley. Mattie leaves to cherish her memories, 6 beautiful children, Calvet Conrad Shelley, Sylvester Shelley, Kerry Shelley, Lydia Coleman, Bridgett Burnett and Neoga Shelley; three daughter- in-laws, Ruby Shelley, Faye Shelley and Christine Blackshear; five sisters, Gladys Singletary, Pearlener Randle, Eula White, Zettie Barker and Willer Everett; twenty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.
