On October 2,1943, twin daughters were born to the late Reverend Nero Lowell and Vivian Iree Yancy in Houston, Texas. They were named Mary Louise and Thelma Adele. Mary and Thelma were delivered by the first female African American obstetrician in city of Houston, Dr. Thelma Adele Patton-Law. She delivered the twin girls at the Houston Negro Hospital. Mary Louise Yancy transitioned to her heavenly home July 9, 2018, in Memorial Hospital Greater Heights Hospital. Mary Loise Yancy confessed Christ and was baptized in 1952 by the late Reverend S. A. Pleasant at St. John Baptist Church on Emancipation Boulevard (Dowling Street). She attended Harper Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Booker T. High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Southern University. She taught in Houston Independent School District. She then worked for 42-years with the United States Postal service. In her Christian life, and with dedicated love for the Word of God, Mary was a faithful and active supporter of St. John Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist church. After the death of her parents, Mary united with Antioch Baptist Church where she served faithfully teaching and believing that every child should be biblically taught. Mary united with the Wheeler Avenue family in 2016. She was committed and dedicated to church. She served in the Faith and Works Sunday School class, The Women’s Guild, Family Group # 2, and humbly submitted to all duties within the Wheeler Avenue Church family. From the age of thirteen months through her formative years, Mary and Thelma nurtured their niece Vonda Kaye Ware until Vonda completed her college experience, teaching her that the God must be the center of her life. Mary had a great love for children. Every year, she and Thelema brought Christmas presents for all the children in one class at Grant Hilliard Elementary School in North Forest. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, a brother Douglas Yancy, and a sister Evelyn Yancy Ware. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish he memory: her twin sister, Thelma Yancy, and a brother Nero Lowell Yancy, and a daughter-niece, Vonda Ware Peppin (Thomas), a host of cousins, a special friend Mrs. Lucinda Flix, and many close friends.
