Mary was born in Toledo, Durango, Mexico in July 1933. She was the youngest of three children. She would be raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico by a single mother where she met and married Duke Soto and would move to the United States in 1955. She would go on to have 7 sons and 3 daughters. Though some may have only seen her as a housewife, she was more than that. During the initial years of her marriage she obtained her cosmetology license. Also, she was the CEO of the Soto home, manager of all athletic activities and the neighborhood mom. When she was not playing games, such as dominoes, Rummikub and Uno, just to name a few of her favorites, she was teaching exercise classes to senior citizens. It would take her over 45 years to become a U.S citizen, her crowning moment. She was an avid volunteer at the Magnolia Multi-Service Center, for over a decade, to which she would receive the President's Volunteer Service Award. She is highly remembered for her love of dancing and socializing.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Duke Soto and sons Terry and Johnny Soto. She is survived by children and their spouses, Nat Soto and his wife Rita (Gamboa) Soto; Andres Soto and his wife Lilly (Juarez) Soto; Rita (Soto) Owens and her husband Mark Owens; Manuel Soto and his wife Lillian (Hernandez) Soto; Anthony Soto; Freddy Soto and his significant other Carla Mendez; Bell (Soto) Reyna and her husband Aaron Reyna; Frances Soto.
