Mary Eleanor (Ellie) Snapp, 79, was born on March 15, 1936 in Byron, Georgia and died on October 19, 2015 in Houston, Texas. Ellie was an incredibly caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to so many. Despite her lengthy battle with cancer, she was filled with life, energy and laughter, and had a special way of making others feel valued. She was extremely close to her son’s and daughter’s families and enjoyed spending quality family time together. Whether you knew her as “Ellie”, “Mom”, “Nana” or simply “E”, you were blessed to have been a part of her life.
Ellie was preceded in death by her husband Oliver I. Snapp, Jr., her parents James W. Dent and wife Rubilee, her parents in law Oliver I. Snapp, Sr. and wife Eloise, daughter in law Rhonda J. Snapp, and great grandson Gavin Wells. She is survived by her son William A. Snapp and wife Betsy, daughter Rebecca E. Chandler and husband Glenn, grandchildren Christopher J. Snapp and wife Morgan, Jonathan W. Snapp and wife Maegan, Timothy A. Snapp, Stephanie E. Wells and husband Mike, Madeleine J. Chandler, great granddaughter Grace Wells, brothers W.L. Dent and Jimmie Dent and wife Adrianna, brother in law Bobby Snapp and wife Peggy, sister in law Francis Muse, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held between 5:00p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, with a reception to follow at the church. Reverend Charles Simmons and Reverend James McPhail will be officiating, followed by a private graveside service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Ellie touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She has now found comfort from her battle with cancer and is peacefully resting in heaven with her Lord.
