Elaine was born in Houston, TX on February 9, 1949, the youngest, to George and Guadalupe R. Hernandez. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School, in the East End of Houston, for her grade school years. Understanding the importance of Catholic education, she then went on to Incarnate Word Academy where she graduated in 1967. Marrying her childhood friend, Antonio O. Schnur, Jr. in 1969, she and Tony would raise their two beloved children on the Southwest side of Houston for 18 years, remaining friends through their golden years. Elaine worked for many years in Administration for St. Luke's Hospital in the Texas Medical Center retiring after 20+ years in the industry. Elaine then went on to work at the Metropolitan Tribunal for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, before moving back to the Second Ward. Instilled with a servant’s heart, she was involved with and an avid supporter of Catholic education through the OLG Alumni Association throughout her life as an adult. Elaine was part of the Laugh Staff – Clown Ministry of St. Luke’s for many years, spreading joy & laughter to patients and visitor to the hospital, while at St. Luke’s she also served on the Hispanic Heritage Committee. A proud Houstonian, she was also a dedicated Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Committee Person since 1995 serving on the Go Tejano Committee and proudly receiving her exclusively recognized Lifetime Committee Member badge in January 2015. As an affectionate pet lover, she would take in stray pups and love them until they found their way home, with many that never left the front porch. Elaine loved to travel with family and friends and made scrapbooks full of memories for every occasion. Known as the perfect party planner, Elaine enjoyed many joyous celebrations with her friends and family throughout the years and was well loved by the extended Hernandez & Schnur families.
She is predeceased by her former husband Tony, her parents, sisters Janie Ponce & Susie Hinojosa, along with her beloved in-laws. She is survived by her children, Antoinette Briana Rodriguez, and Marcus Anthony (E. Adriana) Schnur as well as the pride of her life, grandchildren Nicholas Schnur, Montsserat Schnur, Ismael Rodriguez, Nathan Schnur, Adam Rodriguez, and Samuel Rodriguez. Also left to grieve her absence are her siblings, George Jr. (Joyce), Gloria Leal, Irene Gonzales, Victoria (Raymond) Garcia & Dorothy (Isaac) Jimenez, along with many of her “favorite” nieces & nephews and cherished lifelong friends.
Briana & Marcus would like to thank all those who supported them and helped cared for Elaine in her final years, especially Aundra, Carla, Yolanda, and Shera & Wilma of Vantage Hospice. The care and compassion shown to our beloved Mother will never be forgotten.
