Mary “Sue” Moore, 87, passed away on October 9, 2022. Mary was born in Houston, Texas, on November 24,1934, to John Leon and Ocie Mae Pereira. She graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School in 1953.
Mary met the love of her life, Marcell “John” Moore Jr., in elementary school. They were married for 62 wonderful years and she was the joy of his heart. With a smile, he told his grandchildren he had abandoned plans to go into the Catholic priesthood when he saw her playing the Blessed Mother in a Christmas pageant. Together they raised a family and owned a successful business called John Moore Services.
John and Mary were blessed with five children, to whom she was a dedicated and loving mother. She endured the tragic deaths of a young son and later a young-adult daughter, surviving the unthinkable through her unwavering faith. Our family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with Duke and Nalda.
Mary was lovely and created lovely spaces, especially in the garden. She loved watching seeds turn into things of beauty. She expressed her love for us by baking her famous tea cakes and German chocolate cakes. She enjoyed living next to her son and daughter-in-law in the country as well as going shopping and getting her nails painted with her daughters.
Mary was predeceased by her husband John Moore; son Marcell John Moore III “Duke"; daughter Nalda Jean Moore Presnell; sister Nalda Leigh Klorres; and brothers John Leon Pereira and Paul Edward Pereira.
She is survived by her son Keith Moore and daughter-in-law Beth Moore of Tomball; her daughter Tina Moore Carroll and son-in-law John Carroll of The Woodlands; and her daughter Mary Moore Meadows and son-in-law Mike Meadows of Waco.
Mary, better known as Memaw, was adored by her six grandchildren: Amanda Moore Jones and husband Curtis, Melissa Moore, Ben Meadows and wife Madison, Joe Meadows and wife Chauntell, John Taylor Carroll, and Hannah Carroll. They have fond memories of driving around in her convertible with the top down, riding horses, going to the Dollar Store, and talking about faith with her. Memaw also had had five beautiful great-grandchildren: Jackson, Annabeth and Willa Jones; and Bailey and John Meadows.
Mary and her husband John were lifelong, devoted Catholics. They were members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Houston for many years then, after moving to the country, they became members of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Tomball.
A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, followed by a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
