Our loving Wife and Mother, Mary Lou Andrews Leyh, passed away on July 15, 2022, surrounded by her family. Mary Lou was born on March 1, 1956, to Margaret and D.N. Andrews in Houston and was a deeply loved and forever loving daughter. She was a lifelong member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church where she was Baptized, married and celebrated the Baptisms of her sons. Mary Lou had a strong, unwavering faith that saw her through many ups and downs in her life.
Mary Lou grew up attending Houston schools, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1974, and then entered The University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Upon her 1978 graduation from UT with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Mary Lou entered the University of Houston Law Center, graduating with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1981 and practiced law for many years,
being named a Partner at Baker, Brown, Sherman and Parker. It was when she was in her first job as an attorney that she met the love of her life, Steve Leyh. Mary Lou and Steve married in January 1987 and enjoyed the happiest and most supportive of marriages for 35 years. They were blessed by having two sons, Nicholas Robert and Christopher David. Mary Lou and Steve focused their lives around their family and they enjoyed a very loving and strong family bond. They traveled the world together, always
exposing their sons to other cultures and interests, as well as enjoying many outdoor sporting activities together.
In addition to her devotion to her family and a successful law career, Mary Lou had many other interests that impacted countless lives. She served on the Altar Guild of St. Martin’s for over 20 years, as well as numerous other roles in her Church. She spent countless hours volunteering at her sons’ schools through the years, was a volunteer teacher at Yellowstone Academy and was very involved in the Boy Scouts of America, leading many Scouting groups and was so very proud when each of her sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Between her family and her bounty of friends, Mary Lou was the richest person we know in terms of friendship, love, support and devotion. She was truly an extraordinary and selfless person.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by the loving and devoted men in her life - Steve, Nicholas and Christopher. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Karen Norberg, and cousins John and Paula Riddle, Tom Riddle, Paul and Laura Riddle, Nancy and Juergen Vöelker, Ken and Becky Norsworthy, Pamela Robertson and Christina Andrews.
