Mary Oropeza Lopez was born November 15, 1921 in Galveston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband Nieves and son John. She is survived by daughters: Mary Adams (husband Gary, children Melissa and Matthew), Elizabeth Lopez (special friend Ruth); and son :Andrew Lopez (wife Kathy, children, Erin, Sarah and Anna.) She has 3 great-grandchildren: Carter, Luke and Zaiden. Her surviving brothers and sisters are: Victoria Oropeza, Jesse Oropeza, Nick Oropeza and Rosie Quiroga.
Mary was a proud graduate of Dominican High School in Galveston. Upon her retirement as a health-care professional, she worked for Catholic Charities Houston.
Mary was an officer and member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court of Our Lady of Victory #234 for over fifteen years. She was also active in the Holy Name Church Altar Society and participated in many church, community and civic activities.
Mary will always be remembered for her spirit of volunteerism.
A woman of many talents, Mary was known for her expertise as a seamstress and quilter.
With loving hands, she created a keepsake-quilt for each of her granddaughters.
Always anxious to learn new skills, Mary took computer classes at the Third Age Learning Center and always had a desire to keep up with ever advancing technology.
She loved and cared for her pets! Her parrot, Rosita, will reside in Austin with daughter Liz.
Mary loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit Rome and Vatican City. She often traveled to Colorado and Kentucky. Her favorite places to visit in Texas were the Hill Country and the Rio Grande Valley. Her family has many fond memories of spending time with her at the beach in Galveston, where she grew up.
