Her Life’s Story
Mary Ella Malone was born November 2, 1929, in Ansley, Louisiana, to Jesse and Minnie Malone. She was the ninth of ten children. She attended school in Ansley, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age.
Mary Ella Malone united in marriage with Leonard Hudson, June 26, 1946, in Ansley, LA. Through their union, four children were born, Carolyn, Dwayne, Wanda and Cutee. They relocated to Houston, in the early 1950’s. They were married for 50 years.
She served at churches in Ansley, LA, at Greater Macedonia B. C. under the leadership of the late Rev. Bennie Blair, at Mt. Zion B. C., under the leadership of the late Rev. Harry Bailey, Sr. and St. James B. C. under the leadership of the late Rev. Melvin Smith.
Mary’s desire to serve Christ, began early in her life. She enhanced her abilities to serve by graduating from the Texas Geriatric Nursing School (1962). She took theology classes, prior to becoming a minister.
She preached her first sermon and received her license to preach on January 23, 1983, at Mt. Zion MBC, under the leadership of Rev. H. L. Bailey. She was ordained as a minister on July 1, 1984, at St. James MBC, under the leadership of Rev. M. L. Smith. She was a pastor of churches in Richmond TX, Kashmere Gardens area of Houston, and Texas City, TX, all under the Church of the Living God.
She always had a servant’s heart, as she was, a Den Mother for Boy Scouts in the Carverdale Community, active with her children’s PTA and school activities, a missionary (beginning 1978), a prayer partner at KETH Channel 14/Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) in Houston (1980’s), a speaker at The Church of the Living God P.G.T. 80th Semi-Annual Assembly (1984), Houston, TX. She would take communion to people in Carverdale, who were sick and shut in. She loved to cook, was exceptionally good at it and was always willing to share whatever she had with others.
Predeceased by, her parents, Minnie ( 1936), and Jesse Malone (1960), husband, Leonard (12-25-1996), daughter, Carolyn (1948), daughter, Wanda (12-1-2007), and nine siblings, Robert (10-23-1977), David (2-7-2000), John Willie (1967), Jesse Lee(3-1-1999), Myra (9-18-1989), Otis (9-3-94),Ralph, (1-3-1983), Columbus (5-30-1996), and Roberta (6-30-2010).
Memories of her will always endure in the hearts of many. Those left to preserve and treasure her memory include her son, Dwayne Hudson (Sherrill), daughter, Cutee Hudson, Charles Craft, (gained son), grandchildren, Jocelyn Hudson (Lewis), Kimberly Lewis (Teko), Shalon Hall, Jermaine Hudson and Deneice Hudson, great-grandchildren, Derrick Ray , Ashley Ray, Brittney Lewis, Jordyn Lewis, Chelsea Hudson, Gabrielle Hall and Savion Powell, great-great grandchildren, Asia Ray, and Aiden Busby, great-grand dog Tobi Hall, nieces, nephews, cousins, Sister-in-Law, Trucy Mae Hudson and Aline Hudson, both in Ruston, LA, and many friends.
