Mary Alice Dumas was born on August 20, 1945, in Marshall, Texas, to Nancy Ree and JD Foreman. The family relocated to Houston in 1950 for better opportunities, settling in the fifth ward. Mary had a strong passion for education, graduating from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1964 and later earning her Associate Degree in Business from Houston Community College.
Her professional journey began at a local cleaners in the 3rd Ward, followed by working alongside her eldest sister, Willie Mae, at the Residence Inn. In 1988, she commenced her career at the Department of Transportation for the United States Coast Guard. Her last position was as an Administrative Assistant for her brother, George Foreman, before retiring in 2019.
On January 16, 1970, Mary married Paul Dumas, with whom she had three children: Joseph Dumas, George Dumas, and Paula Lawson. They initially resided in North Wood Manor before relocating to Huffman, Texas, in 2002.
Mary cherished moments of laughter, singing, and dancing with her loved ones, especially enjoying the company of her close friends, the "Ladies" – Liz Sweat, Naomi Washington, Yolanda Hubbard, Genevieve “Genny” Robinson, and Yvonne Harris. She also enjoyed going back to her hometown of Marshall, Texas. She was passionate about assisting family and friends in decorating for special events. Mary had a fondness for fashion; her attire was always complemented by a pair of J.Renee's shoes and a matching purse. She showed kindness and warmth to everyone she met.
Mary passed away on April 4, 2024, at HCA Hospital in Kingwood, leaving a void in the hearts of her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Ree and JD Foreman, and siblings, Robert Earl, Willie Mae, Kenneth Wayne, and Gloria Patrick.
Mary is survived by her husband, Paul Dumas, children Joseph Dumas (Lisa), George Dumas Sr. (Tamberly), and Paula Lawson, brothers George Foreman (Mary) and Roy Foreman (Verna), 2 Godchildren Shawna Mitchell and Christian Duncan, 9 grandchildren, Larrissa Fry (Lamont), Brandi Dumas, Joshua Dumas (Simone), George Dumas Jr., Alicia Lemons, Darius Dugas, Atria Dumas, Nya Dumas, Allana Dumas. 5 great-grandchildren, Melodee Booth, Jahzara Dumas, Joshua Dumas Jr., Sebastian Dumas, Simea Dumas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will held for Mary on Saturday, 20, 2024 from 11a to 12p at Greater Galilee MBC 4637 Gano St. Houston Texas 77009 on April 20, 2024. Funeral services will be held immediately following from 12:00 PM to 1pm. Interment will be following the service at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston Texas 77039.
