Mary Joe Dozier passed away September 23, 2019 at her home in Houston. Mary Joe was born July 3, 1934 in Ft. Worth and lived in Texas for her entire life. The eldest child of Festus Clay and Margaret Phillips, she and her siblings, Lola Margaret Randel and Festus Clay Phillips, Jr., grew up in Granbury. Mary Joe worked as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell during high school and continued her career when she moved to Austin. Mary Joe became a full time homemaker upon moving to Sweetwater and later Abilene. In the 1970s she began work as an administrative assistant with the Mental Health Association of Abilene. She moved to Winters after her second marriage, retired in Coleman and later moved to Houston as health challenges increased. She remained lifelong friends with those she met in every city where she lived. She was preceded in death by her first husband, R. Leon Decker, with whom she raised their daughters; by second husband, Marvin Dozier, with whom she enjoyed the arrival of grandchildren and full lives after retirement; and by her nephew Jonathan Phillips, her brother, Clay Phillips, Jr. and sister, Lola Margaret Randel. She is survived by daughters and their spouses: Janet and Quincy Allen of Houston, and Vicky and Bonnie Gale of Tyler; grandchildren: Bart and Allison Hennigan (and their children Hannah, Joss and Connor), Brett Hennigan and Nolan Pflug, William and Susanna Allen, Benjamin Allen, Amy and Mason Matthews (and their daughter Sophie); nieces and nephews: Debbie and Gary Robison, John and Dana Decker (and family), Ladonna and David Eisenbaum (and family), Mary and A.W Robison (and daughter), Mark and Karla Randel (and family), Jonathan and Lisa Randel (and family), Douglas Clay Phillips (and family) and Jo Martha Randel; sister-in-law Pat Phillips; as well as many dear friends and extended family members.
A Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in the chapel of Holly Hall Retirement Community, 2000 Holly Hall Street, Houston, Texas 77054. Reception to follow in the McMillan Building in the same location.
