She is survived by her husband Cornell Dove of Missouri City, Texas; a son Damon K. Dove and granddaughter, Kaylah Rene Dove; step-son Shannon Silas, wife Alexia and daughters Hazel and Lilly; cousins Jerryell and Lawrence Taylor of Union City, California; cousins from the Griffin/Garner family especially Gwendolyn Lavern Griffin. Her extended family included Roland Silas and wife Kim, son Paxton and daughter Camryn. Her dearest and most cherished friends with whom she shared her life was Mrs. Joyce Glenn, Mrs. Sharon Lovelady, Mrs. Sheila Darling and Evangelist Mollie Neal.
Mary's family moved to Odessa, Texas when she was two and it is there she went to school until the death of her father and her mother moved to Houston. She graduated from E.E. Worthing High School and lived for a brief period after high school in Oakland/San Francisco, California before returning to Texas. Later she obtained her Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from Texas Southern University and worked in the oil industry for many years as a financial analyst before joining the City of Houston where she retired.
Her loves included playing tennis, traveling and spending time with family, especially her husband Cornell to whom she was married to for 53 years and granddaughter Kaylah. Mary was committed to her faith in the United Methodist Church and tried to always uphold "that is is better to give than to receive".
A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the charity of our choice in Mary's name.
