Mary graduated from Grant School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio, in 1945. She was a registered nurse and worked for many doctors, hospitals, and clinics, ending her career in nursing at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Mary was a devout Catholic who frequently volunteered at her church. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, and crossword puzzles. Mary tolerated sailing and golf for the sake of her husband!

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert DeConnick; parents, Ignazia (Ettore) Urso, Joseph Michael Ettore, and stepfather Salvatore Urso; brother Michael Ettore; sisters Josephine Hostetter and Carmela Caplin; nieces Agnes McKim; and nephews Joseph Ettore and Jerry Long.
