Mary Ann Carr, was born on November 9, 1942 in Houston, Texas and was the only child to Willie Mae White Carr and Charles Austin Carr. “Mary Ann”, as she was known, attended Burrus Elementary School, Booker T. Washington High School, and graduated in 1962 from Saint Nicholas Catholic School in the Third Ward area of Houston. After high school, Mary Ann attended Texas Southern University and next entered the United States Marine Corp. She served her country for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1965. It was immediately afterwards that she began her next endeavor as a dedicated nurse, serving and caring for others for 30 plus years. During the time span of her career, she worked at many of Houston’s leading hospitals such as, M. D. Anderson, Ben Taub General Hospital, and the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital. From a young child, Mary Ann learned to serve the Lord. She enjoyed many things in life such as shopping, traveling, spending time with family, and entertaining others. She had a personality out of this world and to know her was to love her! On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, Mary Ann made her transition to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her faithful and loving parents Charles Austin Carr and Willie Mae Carr, ten maternal aunts and uncles, and five paternal aunts and uncles. Mary Ann leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughters Elsa Anderson (Charles) and Ellena Dugas (Paul) and their families, as well as one aunt, and a host of relatives and friends.
