Martha Kay Frazier Roland passed away peacefully on the 17th of October 2012. She was born on the 10th of January 1940 to Texora and Herbert Frazier in Baytown, Texas. Martha Kay’s beautiful smile captured the hearts of many people.
Martha Kay was valedictorian of her graduating class at Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, class favorite every year, a Lee Brigadier, and Queen of the Confederate Ball. She earned a BBA in three years and graduated with honors from Texas Christian University in 1961. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and the ROTC Angel Flight.
Martha Kay met David Redford at TCU and they were married in 1961. They were married for 27 years and raised twin daughters in Houston. A dedicated stay-at-home mother, Martha Kay participated in the girls’ lives through volunteering at their schools and helping and supporting them in their many activities.
Martha Kay was an active Tri Delta alumnae, a member of the Junior Forum, and the Blue Bird Circle of Houston. She was talented at sewing, gardening, and creative projects. She had a passion for traveling and would plan wonderful vacation itineraries after much research of the destinations. She was a wonderful cook and used this talent for entertaining and having memorable dinner parties in her home. An avid reader who enjoyed the classics, Martha Kay was active in book clubs. She loved cats, appreciated the theater, and was a loyal friend to many people who will miss her beautiful red lipstick smile.
Martha Kay married Billy Roland in 1993 and moved to Fort Worth where she enjoyed living with a lake view and participating in the lives of the Roland family. Martha Kay and Bill enjoyed many cruises to far away places.
In Houston, she was an active member of Bethany Christian Church, and later, St. Luke’s United Methodist. In Fort Worth, she was a member of First United Methodist.
Martha Kay is survived by her daughters Meredith Redford Harris and husband James Harris, MD, and Davalyn Redford Bone and husband Robert Bone; her grandchildren, Mitchell, David, and Matthew Harris, and William Bone; sisters Maudeen Eccles and husband Joe, Judy Oliver and husband Bob; niece Amy Tucker and husband Paul, nephew Scott Eccles and wife Charlotte, nephew Al Oliver and wife Lisa; her stepbrother Bill Satterwhite and wife Neita; her stepsisters Mary Virginia Cummins and Sue Harris and husband Richard. She is also survived by the Billy Roland family, Marvin and Quincy Roland, Darla Roland, Carl and Megan Roland and their children Jake and Jordan; and many step-nieces, step-nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Roland, her mother, Texora Frazier Satterwhite, her father, Herbert S. Frazier, and stepfather, Troy L. “Doc” Satterwhite.
Martha Kay’s beautiful smile and the way she deeply loved all of us will be missed. The family extends special thanks to Wesley Roland for his professional services and kind dedication and special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Hampton Post Oak in Houston for their dedicated care.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 23rd of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Dr. Sara Owen-Gemoets is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Grand Foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family request that contributions in Martha Kay’s memory be directed to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 900 Portway Dr., Houston, TX, 77024; or to the charity of one’s choice.
