To most of the world she was Martha, to her girls she was “Mom”, and to her grandkids and great-grandkids, she was “GeGe”. Her family always joked that she had “slaved over a hot steering wheel” for her contribution to the holiday meals. But if one of the kids was staying at her house, she was definitely making a big breakfast. She had recently perfected the Belgian waffle. She liked to use her handicap placard to park close to the entrances when she shopped, but she could walk the mall all day. She worked full time until she was 75, and devoted much of her time to managing the administrative and financial responsibilities for an IT firm. At her retirement party, she was presented with a plaque from the mayor proclaiming the date as “Martha Goswell Day” in Houston. Spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and her great-nieces was her favorite thing to do. She enjoyed sewing and was working on a new blanket for her great-grandson. She was interested in genealogy research and had found fascinating information about her family history dating back to the 1200’s. Martha had just recently moved across town to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, and she was excited to have so many plans that she was looking forward to. God had another plan for her. Martha Kate Goswell, 79, of Houston, Texas was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday July 24, 2022.
Martha was born to Roy & Lela Smith on March 13, 1943. She and her three siblings were raised in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Jesse Jones High School in 1961, and was a proud member of their commodores drill team. She married in 1962 and had two daughters.
Martha is survived by her daughter and son in-law Kimberly & Gene Stanley and her daughter and son in-law Kristi and David Gamble. She leaves behind four grandchildren; Ashley & John Lawless, Randi Goss, Daniel & Tennelle Goss, Elissa & Kevin Day, and Dustin & Amber Gamble, and 6 great-grandchildren. She’s also survived by her brother Harry, her sister, Carol, and her nieces and nephews whom she loved. She is preceded in death by her parents and her youngest brother, David.
GeGe’s presence will be missed throughout the years, but we rejoice knowing that she is with her loved ones and free from all of the pain and struggle of our earthly home.
A Memorial Gathering for Martha will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
