Marlene Ann Schwartzenburg Volz passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 in Conroe, Texas following a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert, her dear husband and faithful companion of 51 years, her brother Harry John Schwartzenburg and wife Betty and brother-in-law Craig Felger. Marlene was born to Ira and Odile Schwartzenburg of Marksville, Louisiana on July 8th, 1933. Like her father and brother Harry John, Marlene had a special connection to the land of her birth, its people, culture and cuisine. She is survived by a loving family including her son Bart and his wife Tiffany, her two precious granddaughters Madeleine, age 6, and Meredith, age 5, also of Conroe, her sister Joan Felger, of Walnut Creek, California, her brother Henry and his wife Nancy of Sugar Land, Texas, and a very special brother-in-law and sister-in- law in Walter and Betty Jo Volz of Jacksonville, Texas. Marlene held a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, (now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where she graduated with honors. After college she worked for Gulf States Utilities before becoming a homemaker. She was a beautiful person with a kind heart, a creative flair and a genuine joie de vivre (joy of life). It was often said she never met a person she didn’t know as she was quick with a smile, a warm touch and a kind word for those around her. Mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, despite many challenges in her life Marlene held a special place in the hearts of those who knew her and she will be dearly missed. A devout Christian and Roman Catholic she was a “child of God and a child at heart”. We can all hear the music playing from heaven as she dances with her beloved husband Robert, whom we know is beaming at the prospect of their reunion. We are all comforted knowing everlasting peace is finally hers.
