Mark was born to Genaro Nieto and Mary Dolores Nieto (Lopez) on September 26, 1970. He was a native Houstonian and grew up in the East End. He graduated from Austin High School in 1991. Mark never married and had no children. However, he had several nephews and nieces which he treasured. He was especially close to and adored his grandnephew, Luke Delgado, and loved him like his own son.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Jo Ann Flores (Arturo Ramirez), and his brother, Genaro Nieto Jr. (Melinda). He also leaves to cherish his memory his nieces, Katherine Delgado, Stephanie Varney (Stewart), nephews, Steven Nieto (Ambhar), Matthew Nieto (Ashley) and Louis Nieto, and his grandnieces and grandnephews, Shelby, Luke, Alex, Samuel, Jiovani, Noah, Lilah and Olivia, other family members, and many friends.
In high school he was part of the Austin Mustang Marching band and played the saxophone. He was also part of the flag drill team.
Mark worked at Einstein Bagels, MD Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He had a special interest in fashion design and attended the Fashion Design and Merchandising program at Houston Community College. Mark loved the holidays and enjoyed helping with the cooking and decorating for these special family gatherings. He also enjoyed Broadway musicals that moved your inner core and touched your soul with music and dancing. He enjoyed listening to music of all genres. He loved to watch Victorian and Period dramas, and had an admiration of England, it’s people and culture and the history of the British Monarchy. He also was an avid fan Star Wars and a collector of its memorabilia. He was passionate about coffee and enjoyed sharing a cup along with a lively conversation with family and friends.
Mark was a loving, gentle and kind person with a big heart. Despite his health challenges, he remained positive and had an unwavering desire to live life to the fullest. His profound faith in God was steadfast and it is what sustained him during all these years. He believed in the power of prayer and knew that God had his hand on him during his lifetime. He was not one to complain and he enjoyed precious moments with his family and friends. His tight hugs, kisses, warm smile and laughter will be greatly missed.
On Saturday, March 27, 2021, Visitation is scheduled from 12 pm-2 pm, Funeral Christian Service is at 2 pm, in the Main Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale, and Gravesite Service is at 3 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX 77023. (713) 928-5141.
The family would like to express their special gratitude to Dr. Jianwei Feng, MD, PHD, FACC and Dr. Cynthia Chapman, along with the other doctors and nurses that were part of Mark’s medical team at Memorial Herman Southwest Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute for their superior care and compassion. We also want to express our gratitude to Dr. Anila P. Sankar, MD and the medical staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Southwest for their exceptional care during Mark’s dialysis treatments.
Mark did not want his funeral service to be sad, but rather a time to share the good, joyful and fun times we experienced with him. His favorite color was blue, so anyone attending his service is encouraged to wear any shade of blue in his honor.
