Born in Houston, Marjorie spent her early childhood in San Antonio, Texas, and then returned to Houston to attend Stephen F. Austin High School where she was a member of the well-known Scottish Brigade. Marjorie played the bagpipes for the Brigade and was proud of and often spoke of her Scottish heritage to her children and grandchildren. After high school, Marjorie attended the University of Houston and worked for the Humble Oil Company, now Exxon.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Blake Crump and Sarah McGilvery Crump and her brother Herbert Blake, Crump, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert H. Dale, Jr., a WWII Navy veteran and retired Vice President of Dixie Carriers, now the Kirby Corporation; her five children, Phyllis Eckhardt Warrington, Carl Kleberg Eckhardt, Jr. and his wife Mary Lou, Laura Dale SoRelle, Robert Hamilton Dale, III, and his wife Laura Dyke Dale, and Nancy Dale Clark and her husband Edward Wayne Clark. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Ellen Warrington, Baker Warrington, Andrea Eckhardt, Eric Eckhardt, Robert Eckhardt, Sarah Slagle and her husband Jason, Andrew SoRelle and his wife Sylvie, Robert SoRelle, Daniel SoRelle, Michael SoRelle, Jacques Weber, Jr., Robert Dale IV, Marienne Clark and Elizabeth Clark; and her two great grandchildren, Simon Eckhardt and Stephen Roeth. The family would like to especially thank Susan Hall for her devotion to Marjorie’s care.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 31st of January, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 1st of February, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Robert G. Anderson, Charles W. Austin, Conrad Bering, Gregory Catsinas, Barney Herod, and Travis Traylor.
Prior to Tuesday’s service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in memory of Marjorie Dale be directed to the Houston Humane Society, P.O. Box 450528, Houston, TX, 77245; or to the charity of one’s choice.
