Marion Frances Leonard Meredith was born on August 17, 1935 in Thibodaux, Louisiana to Marie Henrietta Toups Leonard and Sidney John Leonard and went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 7, 2023.
Marion was a resident of Houston, Texas since 1958 and is predeceased by her parents, her sister Mary Leonard, her brother Larry Leonard and her beloved husband of over 56 years, Troy. She is survived by her daughter, Kirsten McFarland and husband, Michael of Cypress; sons, Troy, II and wife, Laurie of Houston; Kevin and wife, Sheri of Cypress; granddaughters, Caroline and Sydney McFarland, Hudson Meredith Garoutte and husband Evan, Gillian Meredith, Madison Meredith Thorburn and husband Paul, Adair Meredith and Elli Meredith; great-granddaughter Kimber Meredith; sister, Merlin Simek, brother, Don Leonard, of Thibodaux and sister Mazie Quick of Houma, Louisiana.
After graduating from E.D. White Catholic High School, she attended nursing school in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana before receiving her R.N. and moving to Houston. She was a surgical nurse and worked for many years in doctor’s offices. After starting a family, she left nursing to become a stay at home mom. During that time, she drove a school bus for Spring Branch Independent School District, worked in the hospitality industry in hotel management and for a time, held a real estate license. She retired from her job as a dental assistant in 2015 at the age of 80 to take care of her husband. She was a resident of Sherwood Oaks for 56 years. She was an exceptional cook, loved being outside and working in her yard, traveling the world with Troy and she loved watching football, especially her New Orleans Saints. A very special ‘thank you’ to the Petican family, Rosie, Daphne, Angie Blake and Mafet Petican for their dedication to our mom’s care. We can never thank them enough for how much they loved and cared for her over the last two years.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 23, 2023 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Joseph White, officiating. A private Rite of Committal will be in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
