He grew up on a small farm where he developed a strong work ethic in his early years and all kids had to help out working in the fields. He lived there until being drafted into the Navy and served during WWII participating in the invasion of Okinawa. After serving his country he attended LSU and graduated from Ole Miss with a Degree in Business. He met his sweetheart, Joan Pender, while at LSU who became his wife of 60 years. He was in the industrial Insulation business all of his life. He worked in the field during the summers while in college and after graduating went to work for Fuller-Austin Insulation Co. in Houston eventually becoming part owner and becoming President in 1967. Fuller-Austin Insulation Company and all subsidiaries prospered under the guidance of Marion. Fuller-Austin was sold in 1974 and Marion had a buyout agreement and continued to manage the company. He left in 1981 to start Tecon Services with his partners which became a very successful business. At the age 83 he officially retired selling his interest to his partners. Marion was a very respected person in the insulation industry and a respected mentor and friend to many people. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and hunting. He was a long time member of Brae-Burn Country Club and had many very good friends there that he golfed with regularly. He traveled extensively to many places around the world. He had many goods times hunting in West and South Texas. Marion enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Marion was an incredible person who came from humble roots to become a successful businessman. He worked very hard to provide for his family and he was a wonderful father and friend and will be dearly missed. He helped many family members and was very generous with donations to many causes.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joan Carol Pender McManus and brothers Jewel, W.B., John, Robert and Sisters Velma Stacey and Alene Riewerts. He is also survived by brother, Allen, and sister, Lucy Lee Christy. He is survived by son, Michael and daughter, Melissa Chapman, one grandson, Justin Chapman and wife, Cassie and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend, Jan Keener and his special caregiver of 13 years, Halina Cebrat.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Sunday, September 25 2016 from 4:00-7:00 PM, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail Houston, TX 77079 on Monday, September 26 2016 at 10:30 AM.
