Marion was born on the 9th of November 1922, in Fairland, Oklahoma, but at a very young age moved to west Texas where his father worked in the oil fields. He graduated high school in Monahans, Texas, where he was a standout athlete in basketball, football, and track. He attended and participated in athletics at Schreiner College in Kerrville, and was offered a scholarship to play football and basketball at Texas Tech University. His first year there was cut short by World War II and he was inducted into the Army Air Force in December of 1942. He served at Langley, Virginia, where he trained radar operators. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he attended and graduated from Texas Tech with a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering. During his working career he dealt almost exclusively in corporate taxes for oil companies. He retired from Tenneco Inc. after 28 years of service.
Marion was a member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church and volunteered often as a coach for young kids athletics and also served as an accountant at the church. He was member of the Houston Bowling Association and served in a number of leadership capacities during his 50+ years as a member. He was a passionate sports guy. He loved playing golf and bowling, and watched all sports programs. He also greatly enjoyed fishing and bird hunting.
Marion was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joyce Latham Crow; and his daughter, Beth Ann Crow. He is survived by his two sons, David Crow and wife Georgeane, Richard Crow; and daughter, Terry Parsons and husband Don. He has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. “Grand Dad” will be missed by his family and all his friends including those at the Del Mar Lanes and the Palace Bowling Lanes.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 12th of December, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 13th of December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Rev. Matthew Vandagriff, Senior Pastor of Willow Meadows Baptist Church, is to officiate.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in memory of Marion J. Crow be directed to the Richmond State School, 2100 Preston St., Richmond, TX, 77469; or to the charity of one’s choice.
