MARION R. "DUTCH" ASKIN, age 87, became a very special valentine for God on the 14th of February 2010. He passed away peacefully at his home as he was saying the breakfast prayer.Dutch Askin was born in Paris, Illinois in 1922, into a family of three brothers and one sister who have all preceded him in death. He moved to San Antonio, Texas in his teens where he attended Breckenridge High School. He eventually moved to Dallas to become a part of the Menger Hotel chain. Following moves to Houston, Texas, Cleveland, Ohio, and New York City, New York to open new hotels, he returned to Houston in the late 50's to become C.O.O. for the opening of the Shamrock Hotel during the Glen McCarthy era. In the early 60's, he joined Frank Waters Oil Company as C.O.O. where he remained for almost 20 years. After the oil energy digression, he obtained his Realtor's license and became a real estate agent at Pat Satter's Realtors, Keller Williams Memorial until his retirement.Dutch loved golf, Rice University and the Astros. He could always be found on Saturday mornings on the golf courses at Riverbend Country Club and later Sugar Creek Country Club. His beautiful tenor voice was always in demand at Willow Meadows Baptist Church where he became a charter member, and later at Houston's First Baptist Church where he participated in the annual Christmas pageants, worked at the CLC, and led the singing in the Catacombs Sunday School Class for years.Dutch Askin was one of the kindest, gentlest and most giving gentlemen that God has created. He always had a smile on his face and a hand extended to anyone in need. His fun-loving spirit, his heart-warming love towards his family and all who knew him, and his devotion to God became his cornerstones in life.Dutch is preceded in death by his talented son, Richard M. Askin. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Linda Askin; and his devoted daughter, Sandy Askin. He leaves behind a large extended family including three step-sons, Mike, Kirby and Rusty Knox; and a step-grandson, Jason Knox. He also leaves a large number of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends to mourn his departure from this life. His devoted love to each and every family member and friend will be cherished forever.Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances from six until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 18th of February, in the Drawing Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 19th of February, in the Sanctuary of Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401Katy Freeway in Houston, where the Rev.
