Marilyn Ann (Novotny) Flanary, 84 passed away due to illness at home on March 31st 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband Sammy C. Flanary, her parent's William and Anjie Novotny and her sister Darlene M. Becker. She is survived by her two children Robert Flanary and his wife Nancy of Houston, Deborah Flanary of Houston and her three grandchildren Ryan and his wife Nhi, Chance and Gabriella.
Marilyn was born on September 30th 1934 in Diller, Nebraska to William and Angie Novotny. She grew up on the family farm near Odell and attended school where all grades were in one room. She enjoyed growing up in a farming community and every year all the surrounding towns attended the Diller picnic. This is where her love of polka music and dancing began. After attending University of Nebraska she followed her sister Darlene to Fort Worth ,Texas where she began working for Convair. She enjoyed participating in beauty pageants and socializing with many friends.
Marilyn met her husband Sammy in Fort Worth through mutual friends. They married in 1958 and moved to San Antonio, Texas where they resided until her husband was transferred to Houston. This is where they made their home for over 50 years. Marilyn was a very caring and compassionate person who helped many throughout the years. She was very devoted to her husband and her children where she assisted them with their many activities. Marilyn enjoyed spending most of her quality time with her family and friend's and will be deeply missed by many.
Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Saturday, April 6th at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions 3410 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77068
Graveside service and burial will be in Odell, Nebraska at a later date.
