Marilyn was born February 7, 1934 in Steubenville, Ohio to Paul and Erla Werkin. She graduated from Mount Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus, OH as a Registered Nurse and married Thomas E. Bowers in 1955. They made their homes in Columbus, OH, Cleveland, OH, Fort Wayne, IN and Memphis, TN before arriving in Houston in 1972. She and Tom made dear lifelong friends in each place they lived. Both Marilyn and Tom adored traveling, a passion they passed to their children, and together they saw much of the world. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and her work as a nurse and patient educator. She had an elegant style, and loved jewelry and clothes. Marilyn was independent, had her own perspective, but was open and fair minded. Later in life she particularly enjoyed her bridge groups.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Bowers and her husband Richard E. Knox. She leaves behind her son Gregory P. Bowers and wife Susan, son Thomas J. Bowers and wife Stephanie, daughter Michelle A. Bowers and husband Stephen G. Kastensmidt, grandchildren Paul Bowers and wife Kate, Greg Bowers and wife Hannah, Christie Bowers and Blake Bowers, step-grandchild Taylor Stillman and husband Matthew, great-grandchildren Wallace, Maymie, Will and Michael, and step-great-grandchildren Ellie, Cameron and Spencer. She is also survived by her brother Robert Werkin and wife Diana of Mingo Junction, OH and sister Janice McCarthy and husband Lee of Wintersville, OH. She adored her family above all else and was so very proud of them.
The family is grateful to the Parkway staff, skilled nursing team and, in particular, Chaplain John Bender. Special thanks to the Fairmont Hospice staff and especially Fey RN.
