Marietta Martin Heard

Marietta Martin Heard was born on a farm in Oglesby, Texas in 1926. She was the youngest of 5 children born to M. B. Martin & Clara Etta Baird Martin. She loved horses & was a beautiful happy child. She graduated from high school in only 10 years from McGregor High School.

She started at Baylor University during World War II and married a Marine Lt. Dow H. Heard Jr.

She graduated from Baylor & had 3 children: Dow H. Heard III, Drew R. Heard and Deborah C. Heard.

She was a strong, loving & warm mom. Her 3 kids all graduated from Baylor. She & her husband were proud members of Tallowood Baptist Church, having joined in 1960. Marietta sang in the church choir while Dow Jr was a deacon. All of her kids were baptized at Tallowood.

When she became an empty nester , she went to work in several real estate companies. Later she worked at the John McGovern Foundation until she was 88! At each place , she was the mamacita for the whole office.

After retirement. She lived with her youngest, Debbie. Boy, were they a pair!

She remained a strong , smart woman with Southern grace & style. All who knew her loved her. Her heart & soul were always concerned for those around her. At the ripe old age of 98.5 years, God lifted her up from her son ( Dow III) & daughter in law's ( Russelle Heard) home on October 11, 2024. Heaven now has a new star!

She is survived by her son, Dow Heard III & wife Russelle Heard, daughter-in-law Terri Heard of Dallas; grandchildren :Heather L. Heard, Hilary Atkinson , Bowen Cordes Hunter & Haley Heard; great grandchildren: Drew & Brooks Atkinson & Gideon & Gavin Giffin.

A graveside service for Marietta will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
