Marie was born in Monrovia, California on January 19, 1939 to Pablo and Lupe I. Guerrero. She is survived by her sister, Anita Guerrero Choperena Kufis, Fresno, California; her three children, Yvette Rodriguez, Katy, Texas; Yanina Neves, Spring, Texas; Miguel C. Rodriguez, Houston, Texas; and three beautiful grandchildren, Madison Rodriguez, Marissa Rodriguez, and Haniel Neves.
As a young child, Marie and her family worked in agriculture which involved harvest of various vegetables, fruits and cotton. She loved recounting the times her family endured while working and living on U.S. Government campsites.
Marie graduated from Calexico Union High School, Calexico, California after her family moved to Calexico in 1957. From 1954 to 1956, she attended Dos Palos Union High School in Dos Palos, California prior to moving. She graduated with honors and was a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, she was employed by the U.S. Department of Health and U.S. Department of Labor. With the U.S. Department of Labor, she engaged in the Bracero Program in El Centro, California, which involved United States and Mexico cooperation. The program allowed Mexican men to work in the United States, in agricultural labor contracts. She was very meticulous and thorough in her work. As an employee with the U.S. Government, she met her future spouse, Miguel Rodriguez (deceased on April 10, 2015). They married on September 15, 1961, in Yuma, Arizona and married exactly two years later at St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Centro, California. She and her family moved to Houston, Texas in 1976, after her spouse was transferred with the U.S. Government. She later was a dedicated employee of Eckerd Drug, later acquired by CVS Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in Houston, Texas. She retired in 2007 with 29 years of dedicated service. During her time at Eckerd Drug, she was constantly being recruited by Walgreens since she was known as a thorough Certified Pharmacy Technician. She was quite knowledgeable of pharmaceuticals and was always the go-to person for many customers.
Marie loved many types of music, however, 50's music was her favorite. She loved dancing and speaking of the "old days": lovely dresses, dance styles, hair styles, make-up and her fun times in high school and growing up during that era. She also enjoyed Hollywood actors and the Golden Age of movies.
She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly for all her wit, knowledge, laughter and grace.
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc,
et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen
Introibo ad altare Dei: ad Deum qui laetificat juventutem meam.
