Maria Esther Paredes, age 84, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020. Maria was born on November 18, 1935 in Brownsville, Texas to Ester and Patrocinio Guzman. She attended Brownsville Junior High and graduated from Brownsville High School in 1953.
Maria met the love of her life, Alejos, and were married on December 14, 1969. Maria and Alejos had a son, Alejos Paredes, III. Alejos was their pride and joy. Maria and Alejos had a beautiful and loving marriage. They were inseparable. Like any other marriage, they were confronted by hardships, but their love, support and faith in God, always prevailed.
Maria battled with breast cancer in 1980 and 2019. She battled with ovarian cancer in 2001. She was a survivor and would motivate others who were going through chemo and radiation. She always had a positive attitude and her faith in God was unconditional. Maria had the kindest heart. She was always willing to help family and friends.
Maria was a devoted Catholic, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved baking, exercising, playing bingo, knitting, and going on sightseeing trips with her senior citizen group. Her favorite shows were The Price is Right, America's Funniest Videos, and Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed watching Disney movies and eating popcorn with her grandchildren. She would say that her reason for living was her family, especially, Sophia, Carolina and Diego. Maria's grandchildren were her adoration. She was a proud grandmother and will be missed dearly by her grandchildren, son, daughter-in-law, family, and friends.
Maria is survived by Alejos Paredes III, son; Josie Paredes, daughter-in-law; Sophia Paredes, granddaughter; Carolina Paredes, granddaughter; and Diego Paredes, grandson.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Alejos Paredes, Jr.; Patrocinio Guzman, father; Ester Guzman, mother; Daniel Guzman, brother; Patrocinio Guzman, Jr., brother; and Brunilda Guzman Partida, sister.
A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 2516 Navigation Blvd, Houston, Texas 77003. A rosary
will occur Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 6:00 PM, 2516 Navigation Blvd, Houston, Texas 77003.
A funeral mass will occur Friday, June 26, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 4918 Cochran Street, Houston, Texas 77009. A committal service will occur Friday, June 26, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Rosewood Cemetery, 2602 South Houston Avenue, Humble, Texas 77396.
