Maria Dolores Mejia, 98, of Guanajuato, Mexico, transitioned on February 02, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
Lolita as she was known to family and friends, was born in Guanajuato, Mexico to Isidro Mejia & Luz Campos on January 27, 1925. She married Encarnacion Alvarez on February of 1943 in Guanajuato, Mexico. She was widowed at a very young age, which forced her to move to Matamoros, Mexico with her three small children. Here she would wash clothes and clean homes to make her living until she moved to Mercedes, Texas where she would work in the picking fields, she had her youngest child, and later moved to Houston, Texas where she lived until her departure. Lolita was a warrior, she was hard working, very independent and a go-getter, she worked hard throughout her life to support her four young children as a single mother.
Lolita was a devout Catholic who loved to read her prayer books daily and take long walks, multiple times a day. She had a special passion for plants, she enjoyed being surrounded by her plants and flowers and she was well known and loved in her community where she was known as momma by her neighbors.
Dolores is preceded in death by SanJuana Alvarez her first born daughter, and her grandson Victor Gonzalez Jr.
Dolores is survived by her children; Delia Gonzalez, Hilda Mejia & Juan Alvarez, siblings; Soledad Mejia & Carmen Mejia, grandchildren; Norma Pruneda, Alma Villagrana, Juan Alvarez Jr., Graciela Alvarez, Mario Alvarez, Jennifer Tinoco, Marisol Ramirez, Joel Cortez and many great and great-great grandchildren.
The family of Lolita wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Juan Alvarez Jr. for always being there for her throughout the years and Miranda Gonzalez for helping out in her final days.
