Maria R. Gutierrez

She was born on October 25th, 1944 in Bishop, Texas to Pedro and Sidelia (De La Garza) Rodriguez. Maria was raised by her Grandmother in Bishop where she graduated from Bishop High School before obtaining her LPN in 1965 from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. In 1967, Maria married her former husband, Manuel Gutierrez Sr., and together they raised their three children. She returned to school and earned her BSN from Prairie View A&M University in December of 1987.

Maria is survived by her three sons Manny Gutierrez, Diego Gutierrez (Annie), Cesar Gutierrez (Angie Meang) and grandchildren Donna Kim, Denny Kim, Diego Gutierrez Jr, Gabby Gutierrez, and Alex Gutierrez. She is also survived by her siblings, Estella Almeida (Candido), Pedro (Angelica) Rodriguez and Maria Linda Vasquez, and her cousin Martin Martinez as well as numerous family and friends who mourn her passing.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Sidelia Rodriguez, her grandmother, Maria De La Garza, her aunt, Margarita De La Garza, and stepbrother, Domingo Rodriguez.

Maria (Mema) was raised in the Catholic church, loved being a nurse and helping others. She enjoyed working with the elderly and progressed throughout her career from a floor LVN in both hospitals and long-term care to Director of Nursing at Autumn Hills before retiring from the nursing industry and devoting her time to help raise her three grandchildren. Of all the accomplishments she achieved in her prestigious time with us, her greatest achievement was her family. Maria’s happiest moments were spent with her sons and grandchildren, earning her greatest title of grandmother.
