Maria Guadalupe Peña Lazo de Gonzalez also known as Lupita, Lupana, Lupy and Mari lived in Houston, Texas. She passed away to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2014. She was 46 years old. She was a true warrior and battled cancer for over seven years.
Maria was born on Wednesday, August 16, 1967 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to the proud parents, Abel and Graciela Peña. She had one sister, Norma Rodriguez (Peña). Maria attended Burnett Elementary, Lanier Jr. High and Milby High School (Class of 1986). She studied Cosmetology during high school and practiced her skills on one of her favorite Aunts, Regina Montemayor.
Maria loved the idea of having her own family one day and soon enough she met the love of her life, Edelmiro “Eddie” Gonzalez, Jr. They married February 14, 1990 and they raised three very handsome boys, Alex Gene, Andrew and Adrian Leo. She lived for her children and gave them the very best of her life. She truly enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Family get-togethers were her favorite pass times.
Maria and her family enjoyed vacationing in Orlando, Florida and they visited numerous times. She would often say to her husband that at retirement age they would move to Florida and grow old together. Soon that dream was somewhat shattered when she was diagnosed with cancer. Maria was a true FIGHTER and she was determined to put up a real battle.
One fine day her oldest son, Alex Gene, married Karla Sanchez and she was twice as excited – one for the wedding and two for the news of a soon-to-be grandmother. Mia Janelle brought much joy to her life and uplifted her spirit to continue her battle with cancer. Soon enough she received more great news – she was going to be a grandmother once again! Madeline Katalea came into this world and Maria was ecstatic! GOD had blessed her life with two grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping for the cute dresses, socks, hair bands and let’s not forget the shoes!
Maria would like everyone to remember and celebrate her life just as she did during her time on earth. Keep her memory alive in your hearts and never forget her.
