Esther graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas in 1971 and lived in Houston for the past 50 years. She was a stay-at-home mom, and her children and grandchildren were her greatest accomplishments. Their successes were grounded in the love and support she gave them unconditionally. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She enjoyed Tejano music and a house full of friends. Her home was a home to all. She loved watching her children play sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros fan, but her favorite athletes were her grandchildren.
Esther is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Juan Castillo Jr. her youngest son, Carlos Gabriel Castillo, and her loving parents, Leopoldo and Rosa Mojica. She is survived by sons, Joe (Janda) Castillo and Paul Castillo, her daughter Belinda (Michael) Hannah, and her grandchildren, Jacob Castillo, Addison Castillo, and Katalina Tapia. Esther was the eldest of four children. She is survived by her brother, Leopoldo (Berna) Mojica, and sisters, Alma (Esteban) Mora and Griselda (Raul) Ramos, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In her last days, many of her high school classmates and friends stopped by to see her. She was clearly a wonderful friend who was loved by many. The Castillo family would like to thank her closest and dearest friends for their support and unconditional love. May we all come to know friendships like yours that last a lifetime.
The Prayer of St. Francis
Make me a channel of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
A memorial service in Esther's honor will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the RL Waltrip Venue with Deacon Dan O'Dowd officiating. A reception with the family will follow in the Claire Venue.
