Maria Sofia Cabrera

Maria (Sofia) Cabrera, 72, gained her angel wings on September 28, 2018. She was born on September 6, 1946 in Raymondville, Texas to parents Jose Dolores Ambriz and Natalia Luna. Sofia passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sofia graduated from Stephen F. Austin high school, got married and raised three children before beginning her career as a bakery manager at Kroger for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. During her life, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, traveling, cruising, shopping and visiting different casinos. During down time at home, she enjoyed watching the Lifetime channel or a horror movie.

Sofia is preceded in death by her husband, Luis Cabrera; mother, Natalia Luna; two sisters; Lupe Sanchez, and Mary Jane Walker, and one brother, Jose Dolores Jr. Sofia is survived by her companion, Regino Lopez; daughter, Sandra Knight; two sons, Brandon Cabrera and Alfredo Cabrera; six grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, Madison, Cooper, Levi and Mason; two sisters, Irma Counts and Isabel Reyna.

The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, October 5, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm with a Rosary at 7pm in the Family Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 2pm in the Family Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039 followed by a Burial at Brookside Memorial Park.
