Maria Lourdes Bernal, age 66, of Houston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Maria Lourdes Bernal was born on February 11, 1957. Being one of 11 children in rural Alief; she comes from humble beginnings. She attended Alief Hastings High School and graduated in the class of 1975. At 18 years of age, she entered the corporate world with Dow Chemical USA. Maria would go on to serve the company for over 40 years. She worked as a Dow direct employee until retirement, then quickly returned as a contractor. Maria held various roles and was revered for her tenacious work ethic.
Maria worked hard to create stability for herself and her family and learned to enjoy the finer things in life. She was a caring and supportive mother, wife, aunt, and friend. Maria loved to travel, was open minded, and appreciated cuisines of many cultures. She loved music and could carry a tune. A true artist with a creative mind; from drawings to intricate crafts.
Most of all, Maria was and always will be loved immensely by her family and friends.
Her contagious smile will live on forever in our memories. Loved dearly by her husband; and forever the light of her son’s life.
Maria is preceded in death by her Parents Tomas and Tomasa Bernal, Sisters Rosa Fajardo and Mariana Martinez. Brothers Francisco, Juan and Rufino Bernal.
She survived by her husband Sadegh Sorkhinejad, son Bijan Sorkhinejad, brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bernal, Sisters Janie Bernal, Guadalupe Roque, Leocadia Hernandez, amongst her many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home,followed by a rosary from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A funeral mass will occur Friday, September 1, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4015 Sherman St, Houston, TX 77003.
A committal service will occur Friday, September 1, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
