Marguerite “Lillie” Pena Miranda, age 86, of Houston, TX was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 10, 2023, one day shy of her 87th birthday. Marguerite was born in Orange, TX on June 11, 1936 to Juanita and William “Willie” Pena, and moved to Houston in her infancy. Daughter of an entrepreneur, she spent her childhood proudly working alongside her father in his various ventures, many of which involved cooking. She went on to have a career as a pantry chef in some of Houston’s most prestigious private clubs, including the Kirby Club and the Houston Club, and the Warwick Hotel, where she built a reputation for excellence and remained in high demand across the industry. In 1988 doctors discovered a tumor along her spine and feared she was imminently terminal - but strong of will and faith, she endured and spent the remaining 35 years of her life with her family: laughing, loving, cooking, and cheering on the Astros.
Marguerite is survived by her children Roland and Peggy Miranda, Priscilla Miranda and Juanita Drummond, Sally Miranda and Deb Sanders, Arnold and Diane Chavez, and Ann Marie Liguez and Arden Gonzales; her grandchildren Robert Miranda Jr., Robin Paul Miranda, Frances Buker, James Lamp, Ashley Marie Liguez, Abel Santillan Liguez Jr., Anthony Santillan Liguez, Stephen Miranda, Miranda Chavez, Andres Chavez, and Lauren Miranda-Abghary; her great-grandchildren John Robert Miranda, Rose Marie Carter, Carlos Miranda Jr., Cassandra Love Miranda, Xena Jasmine Miranda, Zackery Buker, Jescie Marie Pena, Adriana Buker, Jessika Lamp, Keegan Lamp, Preston Lamp, Angelinah Marie Liguez, Scarlett J Liguez, and Jerimyah Liguez; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Juanita and Willie Pena; her siblings Soledad, Angelina, Angelita, Janie, Virginia “Virgie,” Willie Jr., and Rudy Pena; her sons Robert, Ronald, and Ray Miranda; and her grandson Carlos Miranda.
Her Visitation and Rosary will be held at Funeraria Del Angel (5100 N. Freeway) on Tuesday, June 20th from 5:00-8:30p. The Funeral Mass will be held at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Downtown Houston (1111 St. Joseph Pkwy) on Wednesday, June 21st at 9:30a. Memorial donations may be made in Marguerite’s name to Catholic Charities: Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
