She was born on June 25, 1920 in Ranger, Texas to parents Charles and Esther Forker Holbert. She grew up in Overton, TX, attended Kilgore Junior College and North Texas State University in Denton, TX. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Louis Hollis Shearer.
Margaret was affectionately known as “Mimi” by her family. She was a gracious woman, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a caring friend who will be greatly missed by many. She was a member of St. Martins Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and a member of PEO Chapter CO in Houston.
She is survived by two daughters: Anne Shearer Gardner and husband Jim Gardner of Houston; and Susan Shearer Swanson and husband Ken Swanson of Austin; grandchildren Rebecca Burnitt, Ben and Anna Swanson, Chad Gardner, Chase Gardner and wife Lyndi; great granddaughters Mallory Gardner and Kayleigh Gardner; niece and nephew Betsy Holbert Tidwell and Mike Holbert; great nieces Cindy Yianni, Susie Ballenger and great nephew Art Shearer.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers Nell Fuller, Tiffany Jenkins and Natasha Fuller. Their dedication, companionship and excellent care provided much comfort to our Mom and family during her last years.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 16th at St. martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage rd. Houston, TX 77056.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Martin’s Episcopal Church “Building for Life” campaign in Houston, Texas.
