Margaret L. Rice, (Peggy and Nana) of Spring, Texas, passed away at her home on Friday, October 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Macon, GA and grew up in Chattanooga, TN where she met the love of her life Joe, and they spent 55 wonderful years together raising their family and traveling.
She was an avid reader and bridge player, and loved working her daily crossword puzzles. She and Joe spent many years traveling and square dancing with the Spring-A-Lings square dance club. She snow skied into her 80’s and loved doing anything with her grandchildren, especially eating at Sweet Tomatoes, playing Canasta, and riding a jet-ski, which she was doing just two summers ago. She loved watching the Auburn Tigers play football, but also rooted for Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
Peggy is survived by her three children, Susan Rowland, Joe Rice, Jr. and wife Diana, and Nancy Bondy and husband Mark; five grandchildren, Lindsey Flesher and husband Matt, Christy Lancaster, Todd Rowland, Scott Bondy and wife Jacilyn, and Bryan Bondy and wife Heather; four great-grandchildren, Layton Flesher, Hunt Flesher, Gray Lancaster and Kye Lancaster and Baby Bondy on the way.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Rice; her mother Ora Gray, her sister Barbara Henderson and cousin Betty Benner.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm with a graveside service at Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Rice, Mark Bondy, Matt Flesher, Todd Rowland, Bryan Bondy and Scott Bondy.
Peggy always wanted to see a Christmas wreath on every grave at the Houston National Cemetery, so in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Wreaths Across America- Houston, 4582 Kingwood Drive #247, Kingwood, Texas 77345. (www.waahouston.com)
