She was raised in the Braes Heights area of Houston. She was graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1951, and attended Sam Houston State College, where she joined Alpha Delta Pi. She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Jeff Kemp, on June 2, 1956 in the First Methodist Church, and later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where they, with their three children, were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1969.
Jan and Jeff raised their three children in Southwest Houston until 1973, then moved to the Champions area where she became a very successful realtor for over 40 years and earned many national awards.
Jan had many interests including visiting the family bay house in Bayou Vista, playing competitive bridge, researching family history, and traveling around the world. She invented a mailbox letter clip and created a small business. Her primary interests were her three children and four grandchildren. She delighted in their accomplishments and was their head cheerleader. She served in many capacities in the LDS Church, including the Maplewood 2nd Ward, Melbourne 2nd Ward, and the Champions Ward.
Jan was a bold, hard-working, modern day woman who juggled many responsibilities and earned success in all her endeavors. She will be missed greatly by her family and is survived by her three children: Kayna L. Stout and spouse Daniel, Kellene Jan Kemp, Jeffrey G.W. Kemp and spouse Gerise; and four grandchildren, Boyd Aaron Stout, Byron Kemp Stout, Benjamin Daniel Stout, and Avery Raye Kemp. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lisa Alzubi for her compassionate and devoted care over the last five years.
